AutoCAD 2018 22.0
The initial version of AutoCAD was designed primarily to facilitate construction of small- to medium-scale buildings on microcomputers such as the Apple II computer. This version of AutoCAD was released in 1982 for a price of US$899. The first version of AutoCAD for the microcomputer was priced at $1,299 in 1983. The price of AutoCAD for the PC (personal computer) was later reduced to $995.
AutoCAD has become a household name as a result of its continual improvement, and it is now available on a wide variety of platforms and operating systems.
This page shows details of the features of AutoCAD.

AutoCAD has been described as the “world’s leading CAD software application”. It is widely used for architectural, engineering, construction, manufacturing, and other types of CAD drafting. AutoCAD is used in industry worldwide for both large and small projects, but its primary use in engineering is for design and construction of buildings, bridges, machinery, and industrial equipment. AutoCAD is available for a wide range of platforms, operating systems, and file formats.
The following section gives details of the major features of AutoCAD.
Is the software powerful enough for me?
Some argue that it is not powerful enough and some that it is too powerful.
It is true that AutoCAD is not as powerful as some other commercial CAD applications. For instance, ArchiCAD (2004, a commercial predecessor of the free ArchiCAD) was designed for architectural drafting with a “modern graphical user interface [GUI]”. “One of the most outstanding aspects of ArchiCAD was that it used the zooming and panning capabilities of the graphical user interface”, according to one review. However, ArchiCAD was a desktop app and, unlike AutoCAD, it had only a limited set of plot tools. The user could only zoom in and out on an existing plot, and it could only be saved in the.SGM format, which is not compatible with AutoCAD.
A 2016 study revealed that there is a growing demand for higher-

* AutoCAD Exchange and AutoCAD Message Server – AutoCAD exchange server and AutoCAD message server that provides a mechanism to share drawing information with other applications.
A software application is called a plug-in when it acts as an extension to another application and/or platform. AutoCAD plugins were a simple way to access and manipulate AutoCAD documents from other applications. Examples of plugins are:
Image-to-AutoCAD – Allows creating a’map’ of an image to a drawing and then extracting details.
Model-to-AutoCAD – Allows the creation of a model from parts.
A plug-in is a custom application designed to extend the features or functionality of another program or application. For example, AutoCAD Architecture has a number of ‘add-ons’ such as Windows, doors and elements.
The following examples show how various solutions can be used in different ways.
The following procedures show how to use two solutions:
For more information on using AutoLISP and Visual LISP see the following documents on AutoCAD Website:
* Autolisp – Autolisp.info.
* Visual LISP – VisualLISP.info.
This chapter covers the following topics:
* Using Visual LISP and Autolisp in a drawing
* Creating Visual LISP classes
* Using the AutoLISP API
* Using the VBA API
* Using the ObjectARX API
* Using Autodesk Exchange Apps
## Using Visual LISP and Autolisp in a Drawing
To show how to use Visual LISP and Autolisp in a drawing, we will be creating a simple cube. This cube will be a series of parts in a single drawing. We can then use the information stored in the parts to create a model.
To create the cube, we need to use the first part named Figure 4.1: A simple cube.
**FIGURE 4.1** A simple cube.
In this model, there are four sides and three faces:
The top face is a simple block consisting of a square and a rectangle. We can also draw a straight line over the entire cube to make it clearer what the parts are. We can make this straight line a bit thicker and add a line from the opposite corner of the block to the opposite corner

What’s New In AutoCAD?
Markup assist automatically creates temporary drawing layers to describe your drawings, called tangents, which are removed when you no longer need them. You can now select any segment in the drawing and have it act as the tangent. You can even use multiple tangents for a single segment of your drawing. (video: 1:09 min.)
You can now create new labels in a new layer to represent important parts of your design. When you use the label command, you can now add a new layer and insert a graphic, such as a symbol or line, instead of a text label. (video: 2:03 min.)
You can now create new custom paper sizes directly in the Scale Drawing Manager. Just use the command and enter the paper size in the Size box, including the standard A- and B-size sheets. (video: 1:53 min.)
You can now drag and drop geometry into your drawings. Drag and drop a block, profile, line, or arc into your drawing. You can also drag and drop multiple layers and tangents into your drawings to create new drawing layers and autogenerate new variables. (video: 2:38 min.)
You can now create and manipulate multiple layers of graphics in a single drawing, and change their order and visibility. You can even rename them. (video: 1:38 min.)
You can now view the boundary lines around your objects and easily change them with the Boundary command. (video: 1:47 min.)
You can now use horizontal and vertical line segments to draw continuous lines and arrows. You can also draw elliptical arc or circular arc profiles and right-angle segments. (video: 2:30 min.)
You can now place a label automatically when you use the Label command. Just type the label name and then select the objects to apply the label to. The label will be placed based on the highest-valued object. (video: 1:36 min.)
You can now automatically identify geometry that repeats or is identical. You can also use the Identify command to match geometry based on its location, category, or type. (video: 2:27 min.)
You can now use the Select from Anchor Command to directly select your anchor points from the command menu. Selecting a reference point is faster than creating a point with the Select command. (video: 2:25 min.)
